The Nikon Film Cameras Page 3

There were only 2 Nikon film cameras in my life as the Digital SLR versions eventually became more affordable for me. In December 2000 I purchased the Nikon F5 from James Place Cameras for $3,500, and funnily they are located in James Place, Adelaide.

Nikon F5 SLR CameraThe fabulous Nikon F5 is seen here in all of its glory.
This camera is truly fantastic, and represents quite an achievement for Nikon I imagine. It is shower and dust proof, a super fast focus system is coupled with an amazing shutter speed of approx. 8fps.
When I bought this camera it was one of my truly happy days, and I was a very long way from the Kodak Instamatic 104 purchase way back in 1966.

The Nikon advertisement says "Imported from the future" and it truly is.

Nikon 80 - 200 ED f2.8 AFS Lens At the same time I purchased a new Nikon 80 - 200 ED f2.8 AFS (Nikons version of the Canon Ultrasonic) for $3,000.

Cash was limited and lucky for me I was able locate a second hand Nikon 24 - 120mm f3.5-5.6 D Lens for around $900.00. These were quite a popular lens, and an ideal day to day general photography lens.
Nikon 18-35mm f3.5-4.5 D ED-IF AF Zoom
In May 2001 I purchased a Nikon 18-35mm f3.5-4.5 D ED-IF AF Zoom for $1,000 also from James Place Cameras. This was a great lens for wide angle work and it was replaced as soon as the new Nikon DX 12- 24 became available when I went over to the Digital Nikon SLR's.

Nikon F100 SLR CameraIn August 2001 I purchased the F100 as a backup camera for the F5 for $2500 from James Place Cameras, Adelaide.

I eventually sold the Nikon F5 as I found it to be a little on the heavy side, as I did a lot of extended walking with my camera gear, and weight does take a toll after a few kilometers on foot.

Along the way in 2001 I found a simple Nikon f1.4 50mm
Ai-S manual focus lens built way back in 1986, that would give me some low light photography options if the need arose.Nikon 50mm f1.4 manual focus lens With the Digital Nikon SLR Cameras it is easier sometimes to just increase the ISO.

After I purchased the Nikon D100 I kept the F100 SLR for a short time and then it went into the camera store to be sold on consignment, and my conversion to digital photography was 100% complete, and it was the end of an era for me and my camera adventures.
